Origins and Theory

Traditional Oriental Medicine (TOM) theory originated thousands of years ago through the meticulous observation of nature, the cosmos, and the human body. TOM has been continuously refined through clinical experience of, more than, 200 generations of practitioners.

Oriental Medicine Theory is based on the concept of vital energy called Qi (pronounced ’chee’) that flows through all living and non-living things. In the human body, Qi flows along pathways called meridians which can be compared to water flowing in a river. Any disturbance in the smooth and harmonious flow of Qi can result in pain or illness.

The focus in TOM is to correct the imbalances by clearing any obstructions and enhancing the harmonious flow of Qi, which will promote the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Scientific research conducted in China, Japan, Australia, Europe, and North America is providing further verification of the effectiveness of TOM therapies.

TOM encompasses a variety of modalities used for healing that originated in China, Japan, and other Asian Countries which include Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Diet, Tui Na (Asian bodywork), Cupping, Moxibustion, Gua Sha, Qi Gong, and Tai Chi.
